(AP) — A teachers strike in a Boston suburb entered its eighth day Tuesday — one of the longest in recent state history — with both sides still unable to agree on salaries and other issues, and tensions fraying. The school committee proposal addresses union priorities, according to the school committee, including 12 weeks paid parental leave, smaller class sizes and increased social worker support for students. It is illegal for public workers, including school teachers, to strike in Massachusetts. In total, the union now owes $475,000 for the strike that began Jan. 19, according to The Boston Globe. The Newton mother of three — two high schoolers and a student in 8th grade - is asking the court to compel the teachers union to end the strike.

Mr. Lucas, 59, has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars training his workers to use more efficient techniques that come with financial bonuses to get employees to work faster. But he fears that his investments may be undermined by a U.S. trade rule.

The Justice Department plans to monitor polls in two dozen states across the country to ensure no one intimidates voters or otherwise meddles with Tuesday's midterm elections. The department's Civil Rights Division selected 64 jurisdictions in 24 states, including Alaska, Florida, Georgia and Nevada, for oversight in both the general election and early voting. The division routinely monitors elections in the field, starting in 1965 when Congress passed the Voting Rights Act. A decade-old scandal at a Massachusetts crime lab — which led authorities to dismiss tens of thousands of drug convictions — may involve wrongdoing by more people than was previously known, according to a recent court order. At least one person was referred to the state attorney general’s office in 2015 for potential prosecution, Judge John T. Lu wrote last week. The ruling stokes lingering doubts about statements by the state inspector general’s office over the past eight years that Dookhan was the “sole bad actor” at the Hinton lab. Bizuayehu Tesfaye / APDookhan’s misconduct at the Hinton lab was exposed in 2012, after she had worked there for nearly a decade. A spokesman for the inspector general’s office declined to comment, citing ongoing litigation.

"Soviet man—be proud, you opened the road to stars from Earth!" "Glory to the conquerors of the universe!" From 1958 to 1963 the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics created an incredible collection of posters with over-the-top propaganda lines like that to inspire Russians in the space race. The bold colors painted in the socialist-realism style captured the intensity of an era molded by the paranoid and dramatic competition. The posters, estimated to be worth $400 and $1,500, were recently auctioned off by Mercer & Middlesex Auctions.
